EUROCAE Open Consultation ED-328

We are pleased to announce the availability of the following draft EUROCAE document prepared by EUROCAE WG-112 SG-1 "Electrical" for Open Consultation:

Draft ED-328 "Process Standard for crashworthiness test of battery systems for eVTOL applications"

For eVTOL applications the battery is likely to comprise up to 50% of the total vehicle weight. Therefore, it is not practical for the first time a battery is tested for crashworthiness to be on the vehicle. Thus, there is a need for a standard to be devised that can transfer the vehicle-level crash requirement to the battery in isolation to allow the battery to be tested for safety prior to its installation into the vehicle. There are two main areas of safety in terms of survivable crash events to protect the occupants, these are: 1. Thermal events 2. Electric shock This work is concerned only with the battery and thus it stops at the terminals of the battery
