WG-41 addresses functionalities of Advanced Airport Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS) described in the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 716/2014 on the establishment of the Pilot Common Project supporting the implementation of the European Air Traffic Management Master Plan (PCP). The working group also considers the latest developments on A-SMGCS resulting from SESAR projects and relevant current activities in other bodies, such as EUROCONTROL.

The PCP and the EATM Masterplan mandate the equipage of major European airports with A SMGCS including the most recent functionalities, such as the Airport Safety Support Service and the Routing Service. Those functionalities have been evaluated in SESAR and are mature for standardization. For the Guidance Service of an A-SMGCS standards are needed by both, suppliers and users for a successful implementation.

EUROCAE WG-41 is planning to create a comprehensive set of reference material containing Minimum Aviation System Performance Specifications, Interoperability Requirements and guidance in order to implement A SMGCS in accordance with the functional A-SMGCS specifications developed by EUROCONTROL. The deliverables shall provide guideliens to manufacturers, ANSPs and airports. The material can be used as reference when defining and testing the system quality and performance against existing standards and users’ requirements.

WG-41 will work in close cooperation with EUROCONTROL on the development ED-87D and ED-87E in order to be in line with the recently published EUROCONTROL Specification for A-SMGCS. This close coordination is necessary to allow the PCP requirements to be addressed appropriately. Collaboration with ETSI is envisaged in order to ensure maintenance of the Community Specification EN 303 213. In the same way, a close coordination with the SJU will be established in order to integrate the outcome of the latest SESAR activities on A-SMGCS. Close communication and coordination of standardization activities, e.g. through EASCG, is necessary in order to allow the SESAR Deployment Roadmap to be met by all stakeholders.

WG-41 shall also work in close cooperation with other EUROCAE working groups that are active in the same or similar topics, as for example surveillance systems. These working groups are in
particular WG-51 SG-4 “ADS-B and WAM Composite Surveillance”, WG-49 “Mode S Transponders”, WG-100 “Remote and Virtual Towers” and WG-102 “GEN-SUR SPR”.
