Celebrating Excellence: 2025 EUROCAE Award Winners

We are thrilled to reveal the winners of the 2025 EUROCAE Awards, presented last week in Madrid during the EUROCAE Symposium. These prestigious recognitions are unique in that nominations come directly from within our Working Groups—the very teams where the standards work takes place. And who better to identify those deserving of recognition than the peers who work alongside them?

EUROCAE proudly brings together over 5,000 experts from nearly 500 member organisations. Each year, we take this moment to honour the individuals who go above and beyond their roles—those who take on responsibilities, contribute tirelessly, and help drive excellence in aviation standardisation. It is their exceptional commitment and expertise that the EUROCAE Awards aim to celebrate.

The selection of the award recipients was conducted by a dedicated committee composed of representatives from EUROCAE’s Governance, including members of the Council, the Technical Advisory Committee, and the Secretariat. For the Global Harmonisation Award, a representative from RTCA also participated in the selection process.

We sincerely thank all our members for their ongoing contributions and extend our heartfelt congratulations to the 2025 EUROCAE Award winners for their remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication.

President’s Award: Bruno Ayral

Bruno Ayral (Thales LAS France) has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation standards through his longstanding involvement in EUROCAE. Elected as a EUROCAE Council Member in 2007, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication, having participated in nearly 100 Council meetings over the years. His contributions had a significant impact on EUROCAE’s strategic direction.

Lifetime Achievement: Ross Hannan

Ross Hannan (Aeronautique Associates Ltd) was a well respected member of the safety critical systems community for well over 30 years.  He was one of the originators of ED-12 back in the 1980’s and has stayed involved throughput.  He was Chair for WG-71 and was a key architect of the Forum for Aeronautical Software; now WG-117. As Ross passed away last November, his life-long contribution to aviation standards was recognised posthumously.

Sarah Sterm (Boeing) had only recently joined WG-72 / SC-216 Aeronautical System Security when she stepped up to co-lead SG-6 and the ED-202B / DO-326B “Airworthiness Security Process Specification” revision. Sarah brought a collaborative leadership style and a strong focus on harmonisation that were instrumental to the success of the document.

Amanda Hoprich (AvMet Applications) is an active member of WG-76 / SC-206  AIS/MET Datalink Services. She served as editor, and a major contributor to the development of ED-335/DO-364A on Aeronautical and Meteorological Data Link Services, a comprehensive document of almost 1,000 pages.
